On my third expedition to the Anambas Islands, we visited Durai Island again, and found all of the turtle nests being protected by Pak Lahanie, the island\'s 90+ year old caretaker. He had been collecting ALL of the sea turtle eggs for the past 4 decades for the island\'s owners, and now was giving back to the turtles he cares so much about. We also visited school kids to chat about sea turtles and coral reefs and participated in a massive ocean/coast cleanup effort, the first of its kind in the region. Thanks to the Beyond Boundaries group, the Biosphere Foundation, Premiere Oil and the Anambas government for hosting these activities. [More] [Less]
